Napier Village Settlement
BUILDING OF 36 HOUSES TO PROCEED. Per Press Association. NAPIER, Oct. 13. Contracts liavo now been let for ihe erection of 38 residences on an area of 250 acres of Harbour Board Endowment land, for the Napier Village Settlement promoted by tho Government under the small farm scheme.
Tho sections for the homes to tc erected on are approximately of five acres each. The settlers are chosen from the ranks of the married unemployed. Much work has already been carried out on tho area, including the formation of roads, ploughing of tho land, planting of crops, fencing, and the sinking of artesian wells. The contract time for tho completion of the dwellings, each of which is to be constructed to tho requirements of tho individual family, is ten weeks.
As a sequel to the letting of tho contracts and to much work promoted by No. 10 Scheme, two sawmills in the district havo been placed on a fulltime engagement.
