Hoddcr, as the donor, to present to George Marshall, a bat for the best average in the third grade last season, and he congratulated the winner ou being the only one to score a century in that grade. Officers were elected as follow for the ensuing year:—President, Mr W. B. Cameron; vice-presidents, Messrs L.' Laurenson, W.'G. Miller (Auckland), E. C. Donald, T. E. Hoddcr and J. C. Young; hon. secretary and treasurer. Mr C. Bumble; club captain, Mr G. Griggs; vice-captain, Mr E. ltilcy; two other committee members, Messrs ,T. Griggs and 0. The question of laying down a practice wicket behind the Y.M.C.A. building was referred to the incoming committee. Objections were made to a- proposal in another club As remit to divide the junior competition into two grades, it being considered that the . present system was better socially and also encouraged the weaker players. Opposition was voiced to the City Council Cricket Club’s suggestion to abolish the ten-minute tea interval at the ’Terrace End ground.

PALMERSTON CLUB Mr A. M. Ongley presided over the annual meeting of the .Palmerston North Cricket Club last week. There was an excellent attendance.

The report (already published) and ballance-sheet were adopted, Iho latter showing a. small balance on the right side. Speaking to (he motion, the ediairman referred to the excellent performance put up by the senior eleven .in winning the championship an excellent performance. The junior team was also to bo congratulated, said Air Ongley, on finishing the season so near championship honours. . Officers elected for the ensuing year were:—Patron, Mr C. Several new members were elected to the club.

UNITED CLUB PRESENTS ANNUAL REPORT The United Club reports on its. activities as follows: —“ft is with mixed feelings of satisfaction and disappointment that wo present the third annual report of the United Cricket Club satisfaction with the manner in which the members stuck to the club during the latter end of the season; disappointment, in that, we should find ourselves occupying the bottom rung of the ladder, a position which in noway indicated the true strength of the team. Too must emphasis cannot be placed upon the loyalty of the members who attended practices splendidly throughout the season and turned out every Saturday, even though prospects of being fully represented were Jar from bright.

"Our position on the championship table can only be attributed to the loss

of players wo have experienced throughout the season. At one stage it. appeared as if we would be a force to be reckoned with when the winner was to be decided, but this loss of members soon made itself felt, and wc were not able to win a match after tuc second round. However, we take pride in having defeated each of the other teams in the competition, the defeats of both Old Boys and Palmerston being splendid performances on the part of the team.

“The prospects for the coming season are quite satisfactory, and if the championship does not pass into- oui keeping, wc hope at all times to plaj the game in the right spirit and perhaps to effect a few surprises, Sufficient to say that if such co-opcrulion and such goodwill which existed among the members last year is again in evidence for the ensuing term, thou wc can look forward to an enjoyable sca-

"We cannot conclude this report without reference to the irreparable loss the club and cricket, locally has sustained in the departure from this city of Mr W. J. Millen. Since the inception. of the club he has been by far our keenest member, spending . t ime, labour and money in endeavouring. to further the club's interests, in which endeavours he was eminently successful. It is my opinion that not even tho members of the club yet fully appreciate tho yeoman service ho render-, ed, and members of other clubs never will. He was indeed a true cricketer in every sense of the word. Our best thanks must be extended to those ladies who helped at afternoon tea, arid also to Mr C. Sigley, whose interest in all the activities of the club played such a material part in our welfare."
