N.Z. Brass Bands Executive Meets To-day

TO CONSIDER CONTEST MATTERS,

A special meeting o£ the management committee of the New Zealand Brass Bands Association was held on Wednesday, the president, Mr H. D. Bennett, presiding. The meeting had been called to consider a letter from the Palmerston North Contest Committee intimating their intention of abandoning the . contest unless tho terms set out by them were agreed upon. The management committee considered the letter of sufficient importance to convene a full meeting of tho general executive of the Association —comprising members from both the North and South Islands —for this morning. In a communication to the secretary of the Palmerston North Contest Committee, the secretary of the New Zealand Brass Bands Association (Mr J. G. Osborne) has pointed out that it is not within tho powers of the management committee to vary resolutions adopted at the annual conferences, and consequently it has been considered necessary to call a full meeting of the executive, as stated above.

Wanganui Takes Notice In connection with the present difficulty which has arisen in connection with the holding of the 1934 Band Contest at Palmerston North, tho suggestion has been made that if Palmerston North cannot sec its way clear to accept the terms under which tho contest is expected to be conducted, Wanganui should offer to take on the contest, states an exchange from tho river-port city. The last contest held at Wanganui was mn with excellent smoothness, and attracted a large number to Wanganui. Most of the officials are still resident about Wanganui, and no doubt if the citizens were known to bo behind them the officials and organisation would soon be found functioning. Apart from the main matter of deciding the best band attending tho contest, the resultant advantage financially to the community is not to be forgotten. It is to be hoped, however, that the present troubles can be smoothed out between the parties at prosent concerned.
