Wanganui Spring Meeting Opened in Fine Weather
Royal Hunting Beats Red Manfred and Curie in Open Sprint
The Wanganui Jockey Cluh’s spring meeting, postponed from the previous day because of heavy rain, opened yesterday in fine weather. The course was in great order though a trifle dead. The attendance was satisfactory and patrons enjoyed interesting sport.
The principal event of the day, the Marangi Handicap, was won uy me Takanini mare, Speedmint, a warm favourite, and sho scored decisively from Chopin and Bramblctorn. The honours of the spTint went to Royal Hunting "and Red Manfred and Curio filled the places in a close finish.
The totalisator handled £6253 10s as against £6846 10s, the decrease being £593.
