HOUSEWIVES’ LEAGUE DOES ITS BIT

On Thursday afternoon the Housewives’ League, which has been functioning since March last, hold a successful jumble sale in the quare, when an extensive array of clothing of all descriptions was offered for sale. Throughout tho winter tho members have been engaged in renovating aud remaking, where necessary, the clothing received at tho Central Relief Depot. In addition they have held their own sewing bees, remodelling garments and making articles from material which they have purchased and those latter arc offered for sale at efforts such as is being held to-day. By so doing the organisation is playing a worthy part in tho life of tho community, during a period of stress and difficulty to many of the residents of the city, while as a means of building up a fund to assist it in its work, card tournaments arc held- regularly each week. A strong band of helpers offered their services at tho jumble sale and acted as saleswomen, for, in addition to the new and used garments, there were on offer cooked goods, jams, preserves and needlework of various descriptions. Those so engaged under the direction of Mrs F. Robertson, ad president, and ill's M. Banham, as secretary, were Mcsdamcs E. Treweek, W. O’Donnell, D. Walls, A. Yule, A. Thompson, W. Ollivcr, B. Kinsett and Miss Stevens.
