Feilding Cricket Association

ANNUAL MEETING. The animal meeting of the Feilding and District Cricket Association was held last evening, Mr E. H. Lange (president) presiding over a largo attendance.

Moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, the president congratulated cricketers on the success of latst season, and suggested that the prospects for the approaching season wero quite encouraging. Touching upon the balance-sheet, Mr Lange said that the drop in tho balance was largely made up of an expenditure of £ls towards the cost of tho purchase of a motor mower. In view of tho fact that most of the representative games would be played away from Feilding during the coming season, it was likely that tho funds of the association would be restored to a healthier position.

The report was seconded by Mr S. Still and carried.

A cordial welcome was extended to delegates by Mr Lange, who expressed pleasure at such a representative gathering. Touching on the matter of affiliation, Mr Lange reviewed the negotiations and the recommendations of the Feilding association, which the Manawatu association had agreed to in toto.

The election of officers resulted as follows: —Patron, tho Mayor (Mr C. E. Taylor); president, Mr E. H. Lange; vicc-presklent, Mr W. Power; secretary, Mr T. Donaldson; auditor, Mr Hostick; management committee, Messrs. S. Still, J. Dewe, N. Fitzpatrick, M. Barltrop and C. B. McClure; delegates to Manawatu Cricket. Association, Messrs G. J. Fitzpatrick and Donaldson. A. discussion took, place on the proposal to form an association of umpires, which Mr Donaldson stated was usually an organisation apart from tho Cricket Association. The Rev. E. 0. Blamires said he was glad to bo associated with Feilding cricketers, and offered his congratulations to tho association for its splendid report. He felt that the players could be depended upon to give correct decisions. Messrs. •Dewe, Fitzpatrick and Lange were constituted a sub-committee to consider the formation of an Umpires’ Association.

Discussing team prospects, it was announced that there were indications of two new junior teams joining up, one representing Flock House and the other representing the Feilding Wesley Bible Class. It was stated that 'Flock House was desirous of playing with Feilding, but the question of travelling might prove a, difficulty. In any case Flock House was in the Bangitikei district, and permission would have to be obtained from that sub-association for Flock House to play under the Feilding sub-association. With regard to the Wesley team, the Kev. E. O. Blamires said there was nothing definite, and it was not desired to introduce a team which would result in a bye in the competition. He felt that byes killed all enthusiasm.

It was stated by Mr Edwards that Sanson had an idea of playing senior grade this year. Mr Shepherd reported that Colyton had not yet. decided whether it would be able to enter a team in the senior competition. Tho decision was then arrived at that nominations close on October 14, all clubs being asked to give early notice of their intentions.

Mr Donaldson mentioned the Southland proposal for one-day matches, and wished to know whether members had any views on the subject. Mr Edwards said that tho onc-day junior fixtures were considered rather ‘‘heller skelter” games, and Sanson was keen to get into the senior grade for more steady cricket. Mr Lange said that things were rather in the melting-pot. Christchurch had proposals afoot for preventing stonewalling, and he went on to refer to the Wellington method of recording points. Mr Dunn said that AYellington had reverted to the old practice, and tho Rev. Mr Blamires suggested that points could be allotted with consideration for tho teams with tho least number of losses.

Mr Lunge said that the idea was to endeavour to get away from the position which resulted at the close of last season, when three teams had to be braek-

e-ted as joint winners of the senior competition. It was decided to leave the matter to the management committee to draw up a scheme of awarding points in ordor to avoid ties.

Concluding the business, the chairman moved a hearty vote of thanks to the ladies’ committee who were responsible for providing the afternoon tea throughout tho season. Mr Lango also included in tho motion the association’s auditor and the Press. The motion was carried with acclamation.
