Obituary. The death of Mr. W. J. Peacock marks the passing of yet another old resident of this district. Having- resided in the village for over 20 years, Mr, Peacock had made many friends both old and young. His shop with dwelling attached was a rendezvous for many young men during the long winter evenings where, gathered around the fire, a pleasant time would be spent with cards and music. Seldom did any one pass Mr. Peacock’s door without dropping in for a friendly chat. In any function for the benefit of the district Mr. Peacock was an ever willing and energetic worker and, having suffered indifferent health for many months past, particularly has he been missed during the local Rugby season. At' the annual sports meetings, too, Mr. Peacock assumed many duties and it will be difficult to find another who will fill his place so efficiently. Mr. A. K. Drew is to be congratulated on his success in reaching the finals of the Rangitlkei Golf Club’s championship. The final match played on Wednesday over 36 holes between J. S. Tricker and A. K. Drew resulted in a win for the former 9 and 7. The two cards returned by J. S. Tricker showing a total score of 160 proved that Mr. Drew also played creditable golf.
