“Cocktail Hour” Modern Girl’s Slant on Love

FUN, DRAMA, MUSIC AND SONG IN THIS PRODUCTION. Modem young women cannot, with all their present-day freedom and self-reliance, beat the code laid down centuries ago. This is dramatically and interestingly proved in “Cocktail Hour,” Columbia picture, which opens at the Kosy on Saturday with the Buck Jones attraction, "Treason.” Bobo Daniels in this piicturo portrays Cynthia Warren, wealthy, and famous young poster artist, who’s going to "take her fun where she finds it,” and who refuses to marry until she has "tasted life as a man tastes it.” This, she claims, is her right. But her attempted love-freedom is a dismal failure. She is fooled, and inflicted with heartaches and has to admit that the ancient conventions are right, after all. Sidney Blackmer is the handsome hut black-hearted wooer. Randolph Scott is the faithful, long-waiting suitor, who has wanted to marry her and who consistently Tefuted her theories on the freedom of women, condones her single escapade, and in the end marries her. Both men give excellent and convincing performances. Miss Daniels, as always, is charming. The story allows her to exhibit her well known comedy talent as well as hor emotional ability. Also she has a chance to sing one song—a lovely ballad called, "Listen, Heart of Mine,” which was written specially for her by the director of the picture, Victor Schertzingcr, a musician of note. He is the composer of the famous “Marcheta.’ *

A New York studio, a trans-Atlantic liner, a low public-house in London, and a palace im Paris provide variot settings in which the action occurs. Others of ■prominence in the cast are Barry Norton, Muriel Kirkland, Jessie Ralph and George Nardelli. "Cocktail Hour” is well worth seeing.
