Modernised Version of Melodrama in Kosy Hit

IT WILL BE AN EYE-OPENER TO WATCH “WHEN LONDON SLEEPS” All the fun of the fair and the added entertainment of a thoroughly engrossing film is combined in the picture fare available at the Palace today in the latest British Dominions Film, “When London Sleeps”. A mystery film, possessing a theme that is intensely gripping, interesting and one that holds the rapt attention of the most casual movie-goer right up to the final foot of film. “When London Sleeps,” the Julius Hagen production for the British Dominions Film Company, is an up-to-dato version of the famous old melodrama by Charles Darrell, of which tho scenario has been written by H. Fowler Mear and Bernard Merivale. The action is divided between a smart gambling-den, a large country house in Hampstead, an a giant travelling fair, complete with roundabouts, swings and side-shows. Thrilling incidents include a police raid on the gambling den, tho doping and kidnapping of the heroine in a racing car by crooks, and a spectacular fire scene when a mansion is burned to the ground, and the hero and heroine make their, escape by climbing along telegraph wires and dropping to a safety sheet many feet below. Leslie Hiscott directed a talented cast, including Rene Rav, Diana Beaumont, Harold French, Francis L. Sullivan, Herbert Lomas, Bromley Davenport, Alexander Field and Bon Field.
