From Our Own Correspondent. At the last meeting of the Presbyterian Ladies’ Guild opportunity was taken to bid farewell to Mrs. Gunn and she was presented with a farewell gift aa a small appreciation of the assistance she hM always boon with the work of the Guild. The President, Mrs. Warren, made the presentation. The Guild also met one day last week at the residence of Mrs. E. E Etz, the president, being unavoidably absent. Mrs. H. Paterson presided and said that they had met for the purpose of bidding farewell to another of their members, Mrs. J. Lister, who would be very much missed from the Guild as she had always been such a willing helper. She presented Mrs. Lister with a sachet and handkerchiefs, the recipient suitably responding. Mrs. Etz, on behalf of her fellow members, congratulated Mrs X aterson on boing elected as President of the New Zealand Federation of Women s Institutes. On Friday evening last the Forester s hall was filled with a thoroughly representative gathering of the town and country friends of Constable and Mrs. F. Burrell, and a very large number of apologies for absence were read from those well-wishers who were prevented fiom attending the function, principally owing to the prevailing ’flu colds. The Mayor (Mr. J. D. Wilson) presided over the large gathering and as the popular guests of the evening entered the hall they were welcomed with “For They are Jolly Good Fellows” sung by all present. The proceedings commenced with a short but very delightful concert programme those contributing being an orchestra comprising Messrs. W. A. Wilson (piano). H. Hurt, R. Davey, A. J. Fairweather, W. H. Murch, B. Fairweather and E. Burrell, vocal Items by Miss Junker; violin solo, Mrs O. Clarke; songs by Messrs J. J. Boagey and R. Ogg and other Items by Mr. L. Hartley, Miss Phyllis Brown, Mr. R. Burns,, the accompanists being Mrs.' W. H. Murch, Miss Eileen Burt and Mr. O. Clarke. On behalf of the legal fraternity; the Justices of

the Peace and the general public, Mr. G. Harold Smith paid his tribute to the work of Constable Burrell during his long residence amongst them. He also referred to the assistance that Mrs. Burrell had always been to her husband and he wished them both the very best of good luck and fellowship and rapid promotion. After the applause had died down Dr. H. Paterson wished the guests every happiness and prosperity and he, was followed by Mr. A. Barrell, representing the J ustices of the Peace. Before making the presentation the Mayor added his tribute to the worth of their departing fellow citizens. Wishing them every health, happiness and prosperity he handed to Constable Burrell a beautiful leather attache case. This was followed by musical honours for the Constable. Mrs. Wilson handed to Mrs. Burrell, with the good wishes of the whole community, a well-filled purse of notes, musical honours thfeh being accorded Mrs. Burrell. Constable Burrell suitably retopnded and in thankirig them for their beautiful gifts said that the attendance in such large arid representative numbers he and his wife would never forget, and'he could not find words to express the honour they both felt had been done to them that night. A dainty supper was handed round by Mrs. A. East and her helpers, followed by dancing for which Mr. G. H. Hodd acted as M.C., the music being supplied by the local orchestra, "Auld Lang Syne” concluding the function at midnight Mrs. Bell, Wellington, accompanied by her husband, is visiting her sister, Mrs. W. L. Tattle, Tui Stret. Mr. Walter Dick, Napier, was a visitor to Pahiatua for the week-end. Mrs. I. M. Graham and Miss Grahamare on a holiday visit to Wanganui.
