From Our Own Correspondent On Thursday night of last week,_a re.ord number of people filled the Utuwai ia.ll for the occasion of the monster tug-sf-war and dance. The great number in ittendance proved the popularity of this newly adopted activity and fourteen tug-of-war teams contested their strength and energy with friendly but earnest rigour. Some journeyed from as far as Ashhurst to compete at the function. Mr. W. McKay of Apiti made a capable M.C., while Mr. A. R. McNae acted as oflicial starter and judge, with Mr. S. Roberts of Piri Piri as timekeeper. Results of the pulls were as follows: First round.—Komako. beat United, Oroua beat Apiti City, Utuwai beat Bantams, Piri Piri beat Coalition, Mount. Richards drew with Umutoi, Broadlands

beat; Graders, Kaheke beat Snowllners, Umutol beat Mount Richards. Second Round.—fenotv.liners beat United, Apitl City beat. Graders, Coalition beat Bahtarris, Mount Richards a bye, Broadlahds, beat Plrl Biri, - Utuwai beat Kaheke,' Umutol' beat Komako, Oroua a bye. ti’hird round.—Apiti City beat Snowliners, Mount Richards beat Coalition, Oroua. bea.t Utuwai, Broadlands beat Umutoi. Fourth Round. —Mount Richards beat Apiti City. Kaheke beat Komako, Utuwai beat Piri Piri, Umutoi beat Kaheke, Utuwai beat Mount Richards, Oroua beat Umutoi, Broadlands beat Oroua, thus gaining first place. Final for second place.—Utuwai beat Oroua, making Utuwai second and Oroua third. After this Mr. MclCay presented the winners with their prizes. kindly' donated their prize money to this cause.

Supper was capably dispensed by an energetic committee, then the floor was cleared for dancing. Mr. T. Enright took up the role of M.C., and dancing continued until 3 a.ni. musicians kindly contributing their services. Mr. C. Searlc In a suitably chosen speech thanked all those who had helped towards the success of. the, function. The success was certainly pronounced, over £lO being taken at the door, with an additional £2/10/- earned by means of a raffle.
