Motor Cycle That Was Inadequately Lighted
RIDER LOSES LIFE IN COLLISION WITH CAR. Per Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. Criticism of tho type of light used on a motor-cycle involved in a fatal collision was expressed by the Coroner (Mr. H. P. Lawry) in his verdict at the conclusion of an inquest into tho death of Harold Thomas Deans, single, aged 2S, of Aranui, held to-day. Deans died on July 13, eight hours after being seriously injured when his motor-cycle and side-ear collided with a motor-car at the intersection of Papanui road and Bealcy avenue. The accident occurred at 2 a.m. The evidence was that the motorcyclo carried only a generator lamp, similar to that used on push bicycles and that it did not show sufficient illumination as tho morning was slightly foggyThe Coroner held that no blame was attachable to tho driver of the motorcar, Aliss Nola Grace Edmonds, of St. Alban’s. Geoffrey Ollivicr, formerly New Zealand champion tennis player, accepted a lift in the motor-cycle, although ho did not know tho driver, and was also injured in tho collision.
