From Our Own Correspondent. End of Term Concert, A school break-up is always a lookedfor event, but niore so when there is a concert attached to it. The attendance at toe : Whakarongo School concert on Friday evening exceeded all expectations, there being a large and enthusiastic audience. : Proceedings opened with a pianoforte dute by Masters George ana Jim Spall; Brian Kensington and Milton Harvey then delighted ait with a reoita- 1 tion, “Spider Webb.” '‘Fairy - Glade, , suiig by Jean IXarvoy and Fauiine 'Chris-; • tianseii was very sweet, .as,.Was,the. reci-j tatipn “Singing, Time',” by, Duleie. Frince, The. audience , thoroughly'enjoyed V’Tfie Fdacher,” sung by four senior'boys dressed to • suit.- Tiazey Tiartowfield's ,recita-i tier, was beautifully -spoken.- Teh little boys, realistic in war paint and Indian suits, captivated those present 1 in “Ten; • Little Indian Boys,”. ‘•Blow-Away the Morning Dew,” sweetly sung by the Seniori girls was well received; . : Jack Stubbingtbn recited,. "Little F’linny llabbit,” .very micely. Elsie Harvey, dressed ■as: a daffodil,. was, charming. in' lier piece,"Daffodowndllly.” The final selection sung ■ by ■ a : large , group, of . children’ 'Aloha Oa” (Farewell) brought-to a close ’a Splendid effort- by -tho children. Mi; Eggers capably accompanied.. ■-.Fpilowing the -children’s -part of tiro evening a short adult-, concert followed. These items were: Songs, Mr HalUgaiij accompanied by Mr Eggers; ’ recitation; Mr Woodd; Step dance, It. Scales, accompanied by .Piper Smith; Song, Mrs Morris (Mrs Pye); recitation, Miss 1. Woodd; step dance, Miss Muir; recitations, Miss Vautier; Scotch songs, Mr Stuart £Mra Eggers). Mr. Stuart, chairman of toe School committee, thanked -all performers,, and the audience for coming along. He saia that the school funds would benefit considerably by tho • entertainment. ■ The chairman, next called on Mr. Vautier, the donor , of the mangold-growing competition cup, to present the prizes won by tho children. Mr. Stuart said that considering the tremendous benefit and general knowledge' gained from this competition,- it Was a pity more children (In not- enter. Mr. Vautier presented the prizewinner, Iris'Johansen, with the cup. calling for three- cheers for her. .Hazel Harrowfiid received second prize, Mervyn Johansen third, Tris'si Cowley fourth and Ernie Nowcdmbe fifth. Mr Knudsen donated the prizes. .A special prize donated by Mr Stuart to tho child selling most tickets, was narrowly won by -E. Newcombe. Arrangements are being finalised in connection with the Women’s Institute Show (flower) to be held tho third week in November. .On Wednesday evening a team o euchre plavers from Aokautero journeyed over to ' play ' a 'challenge- match with Whakarongo for the Shield. Until toe last games the -two were, practically even, but the' local players ' finally drew away to win by 62 to 55, after a very enjoyable match.
