Student Who Was Buried by Snow Slide

MR MOSLEY’S OBSERVATIONS. CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 18. The Coroner, Mr E. D. Mosley, this morning delivered his finding in the death of Samuel Edgar Russell, tho Training Collego student, who was killed on Avalanche Peak on July 30, holding that death was due to suffocation and shock, caused by being accidentally overwhelmed by a snow slide. In a rider, Mr Mosley said: “The evidence satisfies me that a mountaineering party should always be limited as to numbers and tho individuals therein should be definitely ascertained before starting. Parties, where possible, should place themselves under the direction of an experienced mountaineer and parties are recommended to keep to tho ridges as far as possible.” Tho following was added to the verdict: “To some people the spirit of adventure calls very loudly, and. mountaineering, with its difficulties and dan-, gors, proves an irresistible attraction. Mountaineering clubs should be encouraged, so that people who desire it may gradually be educated in mountaineering and taught to appreciate and avoid danger.” •
