Optimists Entertain at Social

A most enjoyable social evening, organised by the members of tho Palmerston North Optimists' Club, was held in tho Y.W.C.A. rooms on Friday evening, there being an excellent attendance to enjoy tho programme of dancing and games. Tho room was tastefully decorated in the club colours — blue and white—and with other effects added an artistic noto to tho proceedings. The ladies and visitors wero welcomed with the club’s visitors’ song, with Optimist J. Smillie at the piano. Many novelty dances were held and caused much amusement. Optimist F. G. Scott, and Mrs. Scott were the winners of the statuei dance, Optimist ■R. Haddon and Miss E. Ellcy of a competition and Optimist A. Studd of the broom dance. The winners of these events were the recipients of useful, gifts. Mr. I. Speight was at the piano for thb dancing, Optimist G. Dawick was M.C., and Mrs. Dawick had charge of the supper. Tho committee responsible for the evening were Optimists T. Twigge (secretary), G. Dawick, .B. Weeks and W. J. Young. A number of-apologies from Optimists/ who. were unable to attend were received. Prior to suppor tho singing of Optimist songs was indulged in and Optimist L. Doy entertained those present with some clever conjuring tricks. At the conclusion, tho president, Optimist G. Dawick, thanked the optimists for their co-operation and the visitors for their attendance. An enjoyable evening terminated at midnight with tho singing of “Auld Lang Syne."
