Formation of Sterling Bloc
Suggestion by a Swedish Economist NECESSARY IN BRITAIN’S INTERESTS United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. Received Sunday, 7 p.m. LONDON, Aug. 19. Professor Gustav Cassel, in an article in tho Svcnska Dagbladet, declares that Britain should form a sterling bloc together with tho Dominions and other countries willing to join. Such a step is neccsasry if Britain still wishes to exercise any kind of economic leadership in Scandinavian countries and South America. Probably Japan would join the group, which would arrange a moderate raising and subsequent stabilisation of price levels. Such a measure might attract also gold countries and ultimately form the basis for tho stabilisation of international exchango rates.
