Early Australian Recovery From Depression
CONFERENCE DELEGATE’S VIEW. United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright, BANFF, Aug. IS. Australia will probably be tho first nation to emerge from tho depression, according to Dr. Ernest Scott, of Melbourne University. He states that there aro indications of improvement at the present time in Australia. Australians are not talking depression at present, but business continues, as it takes a “dickens of a lot” to depress any Australian. The Governments of tho various Australian states were making work for those without jobs by public works and other operations. Dr. Scott said that the Australian delegation was studying closely the operations of tho United States’ national industry recovery experiment. At Banff there has been no repression of views ,each member giving his views without reservations. Dr. Scott was particularly impressed by the amicable discussion between the Chinese and Japanese delegations.
