North Island Motor Union Conference Ends
FINAL REPRESENTATIONS MADE Per Press Association AUCKLAND, Last Night. The annual conference of the North Island Motor Union concluded to-day. Tho meeting decided to recommend to the executive that representations be made to have legislation passed for the protection of persons injured by unlicensed motor vehicles which, under the circumstances, would not be covered by the compulsory third-party insurance. Delegates from Taranaki mentioned the need for additional safeguards on some of the small railway engines and also on railway jiggers. While the expresses had powerful' headlights, many other engines were inadequately lighted, and railway jiggers were not provided with warning devices. The conference agreed that representations on tho subject should be made to tho Railway Department. Mr G. W. Hutchinson (Auckland) raised the question of danger to motor traffic when stock was driven on mam highways at night, and suggested that greater" safeguards would be in the interests of the drovers a 3 well as motorists. ] Tho matter was referred to tae executive. The election of officers resulted:— President, Mr W. A. O'Callaghan (Hnwera); vice-presidents, Dr. E. E. Porritt (Wanganui) and J. H. Edmundson (Napier); executive, Messrs A. Grayson (Auckland), W. Palliser (Wellington), B. H. Edmundson (Hawke’s Bay), N. H. Macltie (Manawatu), S. T. Carter (South Taranaki), V. Duff (Taranaki), W. Roydliouso (Wairarapa) and D. Macfarlano (Wanganui). It was decided to hold the next annual conference at Napier.
