A Week-end of Burglaries
SAFE-BLOWERS AGAIN ACTIVE Three burglaries are reported to have occurred in the city during the week-end. Tho workshop of Messrs D. Dickie and Co., Ltd., in Rangitikei street, was entered from tho roar where a window was broken near the door, which was then unlocked Goods valued at £1 13s were taken.
An unsuccessful attempt was also made to blow open the safe of the Manawatu Club, at tho corner of Church and Linton streets. The walls of the office were liberally spattered with some substance which had been used to pack the explosives in the keyhole of the safe, which is constructed in two' sections. Tho thief was well screened from view by an iron fence. However, although a liberal use of explosives had been made, the contents of the safo wero found to bo intact.
A particularly mean theft was discovered yesterday morning, when it was found that a collection box in the vostibulo of All Saints’ Church had been Tifilcd whilo a quantity of Communion wine taken. Tho effort was evidently not that of an amateffr, as considerable damage was done to the brickwork of the building before the box could be wrenched loose. The value of the contents is not known.
