Great Clothes Drive in Christchurch
CITY RESPONDS SPLENDIDLY Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. A clothes drive organised by tho letter carriers of tho city was held yesterday afternoon and resulted in the collection of more than ten thousand parcels. The generosity of householders exceeded the most sanguine expectations, and so much remained uncollected in tho suburbs that a supplementary drive will have to be organised immediately to make the sweep complete. Not only clothing was given, tho collection including between 7000 and 9000 pairs of boots and shoes, bedsteads and bedding, sewing machines, kitchen utensils, preserves, groceries and produce. The postmen were assisted by 350 y .Scouts and Girl Guides and the business men’s relief organisation.
