HIGH SCHOOL BOARD MEETS The annual meeting or the Palmerston North High School Board of Governors and Technical Connnitteo was held last evening when there were present Messrs W. L. Fitzhcrbert (chairman), J. A. Nash, M.P., J. W. Butherfurd, C. Anderson, G. Tremaine, W. K. Birnic, T. R. Hodder, A. J. Graham and Mrs. Aitchison.

The report of the principal of the Girls' High School (Mrs. M. Rhodes) recorded a roll of 211 and average attendance of 230.1. Mr. J. Murray, rector of the Boys’ High School, reported a roll of 363 and average attendance of SIS. The thanks of the school were due to the Rotary Club and Mr. F. Jackson for courtesies extended and to Mrs. J. H. Silson for tho gift of 32 volumes to the school library. The director of the Technical School acknowledged donations from Mr. C. S. Ennis, Kairanga County Council, Mr. D. Watson, Messrs Holbcn and Kirk, Manawatu Plunbing Company, Messrs Ramsay and Campbell, W. A. Kyle, and Ballinger Bros. An up-to-date electric stove had been donated by Messrs Shaddock, Ltd. Numbers for the week ending June 9 were:—Teachers: 16 full time and 35 part time. Students: Day 590, evening 193. Total, 10S3. Weekly hour enrolments: Day 10.575, evening 2678. All donors to tho school fund and equipment were accorded votes oi thanks. Letters of thanks and appreciation aro also to be sent to Sir James Parr and Mr. Leigh Hunt who delivered addresses to pupils during the month, and to tho Rotary Club. Next Wednesday will be the annual Rugby and basketball games between Wellington and Palmerston North Technical Schools.

An application from the Boy Scouts (Northern troop) for the use of rooms in tho Boys' High School hostel for meeting purposes was granted. In presenting tho annual report, the chairman said it was gratifying that all the three schools had been well maintained and that the financial position was satisfactory despite the depression. Mr. Pitzhcrbert congratulated the rector, principal and director on excellent results achieved and thanked board members for co-operation given. 110 said he was sorry to be leaving the board but hoped that the schools would continue to flourish and that Palmerston North would become in the course of time, a leading educational centre. Mr. Nash congratulated tho chairman and treasurer on the very excellent statements presented and referred to the good work Mr. Pitzhcrbert had done for all three schools as chairman of the board. Mr. Nash also mentioned Ihe excellent services rendered by Mr. W. Hunter as the board’s secretary over a period of years. The school stall's also deserved all the encomiums tnat had been conferred upon them. Messrs Birnie, RutherfurJ, Hodder, Graham, Anderson and Mrs. Aitchison spoke in similar vein, emphasising the regret that was felt at Mr. Fitzhorbert’s decision to retire from the board.

Mr. Murray conveyed the regrets of tho school stalls, Mr. Fitzherbcrt, in reply, said ho liar, had the honest and sincere assistance of members of the board and had enjoyed the six years ho had been a member. Mr. Hunter and staff: had been of great assistance to tho board generally. Mr. J. A. Nash was elected chairman for the ensuing year and Mr. W. It. Birnio .treasurer.
