One Year Old Yesterday

GIRL GUIDEES CELEBRATE EOUNDATION BAY. The unique experience of celebrating a first birthday was the' happy lot of the St. Paul's Girl Guide Company last evening. It is just a year sinco this company was formed under the captaincy of Miss Kathleen Scotter and the company now boasts a ihembcrship of 24. Miss Scotter was in charge of the proceedings and was ably assisted by Miss Muriel Shailer, company lieutenant. The evening was passed with gumos and folk dancing together with gnido work in signalling and first an*. There was also an excellent presentation of Tolstoi's playette, “Where Lovo Is, God Is.'' Thoso taking part wore Guidcrs Ethel Hclsoy, Ena Townley, Kola Tregurtha, Joyce Stevens and Beverley Stevens. The programme was greatly appreciated by tho large assembly of parents and friends present. Three new guides were also enrolled by the captain during the evening, following which Mrs. G. A. Eliott, District Guido Commissioner, presented badges to company members. There was one second-class badge, and laundry badges wero given to the following:—Ena Townley, Ethel Hclsby, Amy Baker, Edna. Gooch, Gwen Baker, Myrtle Cosslett, Nadu Maunder, Joyce .Stevens, Nola Tregurtha. Thrift badges wero won by Amy Baker, Gwen Baker and Joyce Stevens, whilo Amy aud Gwen Baker, Myrtle Cosslett, Nola, Tregurtha, Ena Townley, Zelda Smith, Joyce Stevens and Edna Gooch received badges ia domestic science. Winners of service stars were Muriel Shailer, Ethel Hclsby and Emily Duncalf. Mrs. Eliott also inspected the company.

The guides’ birthday cake created much interost. It was made by Mrs. H. Bycroft and decorated by Mr, A. Whitehead. An. enjoyable camp fire and sing song concluding with the National Anthem terminated what will long be remembered as a memorable birthday party for all who took part. Allied w’ith tho guides' birthday celebrations was tho invesituro of the foundation members, 15 in number, of tho recently formed St. Paul's Brownie Pack. An impressive ceremony of investiture was conducted by Mrs. Eliott, who subsequently inspected the pack. The Brownies also performed one of their folk dances. Tho Brown Owi js Miss K. .Scotter, and Miss E. Hclsby as Tawny Owl will assist in tho control of tho new pack. A week or two ago the St. Paul’s Brownies celebrated their first birthday, whilo the older boys are shortly to be grouped into a Scout troop. Miss Scotter aud her helpers are certainly doing a splendid work in developing this section of the young people’s worn at St. Paul's.
