Sunshine Club Scatters Cheer Germs
MRS. E. DARLING THIS WEEK’S HOSTESS
Inspired by a keen worker in the cause of charity in this city, a number of ladies have formed themselves into a “Sunshine Club’’ with the very laudable object of assisting organisations that arc endeavouring to bring a little sunshine to the lives of people suffering hardship in these trying days. Eacli month, an afternoon is held at one or other of the member’s homes when those who attend contribute a small sum and havo the satisfaction of knowing they are assisting a worthy object and also enjoy pleasant company., Mrs. D. Watson, Ecatherstonc street, was the hostess at a most enjoyable party last month and on Thursday last Mrs. E. Barling, who is the secretary of the club, was tho hostess at a delightful afternoon at her residence, Victoria avenue. There were about 30 ladies present and with a cheery lire to give welcome, interesting competitions, lovely afternoon tea, and knitting, the time passed all too quickly. Competition winners were Mrs. G. New (observation), Mrs. W. G. Shannon (lucky chair), Mrs. Mylroi (putting and ing)Tho Palmerston North branch of the W.D.F.U. benefited to the extent of £1 Is as a result of the first afternoon and this week’s effort will assist some other organisation.
