Why Not Hockey At the Whiter Show ?

EFFORTS TO ESTABLISH THE STICK GAME ' At last night’s meeting of the executive of the Manawatu Hockey Association the question of staging hockey matches at the Winter Shows was discussed. The meeting unanimously resolved to make every endeavour to have tho stick game established as a sports feature at the shows. The question was raised by Mr. It. L. C. Aitcliison, who suggested that, u was high time hockey was given its chance at tho shows. “Especially in view of tho present standard of Rugby matches seen at the Winter Shows, X think wo should tvy to get hockey given a place, ’' said Mr. Aitchison. “Tho Manawatu Hockey Association is recognised as one of the strongest of minor associations, and in view of our standard of play I think it is time we were recognised in tho matter," he added. Tho exhibitions of Rugby were such that the introduction of a different sports code was fully warranted. Mr. Aitchison suggested that immediate representations be made to the A. and I‘. Association.

The chairman (Mr. W. If. Wilson): I am in agreement with Mr. Aitchison. It is time that we were recognised as a sport of some standing. Wo could assure tho A. and I’. Association mat we would provide a game full of interest to tho public. The standard of hockey was sucli that they were bound to make a good showing, added the speaker. It was decided, on the motion ol Messrs Aitchison and Wilson, to matte immediate overtures to the A. and I’. authorities and point out to them that it was considered they would be doing themselves a good turn by acceding to the suggestion. Mr. E. McLachlan: “Do I understand that you would suggest the game as a curtain raiser?" Members: “Certainly not."

It was furtherr suggested that the the fixture, if staged, should be a representative one.
