SENTENCES IMPOSED. Per Press Association WELLINGTON, Mar. 15. Reformative detention for two years was imposed by Mr E. Page, S.M. on Dorothy Sharman, 32, described as a domestic, who pleaded guilty to the theft of jewollery and a costume, the first from a lady from whom she rented a room and the second from a woman who gave her the key of a room when she asked for the loan of two nightgowns. She, it was stated by the police, had been living a very loose life, recently booking in at various boarding houses and clearing out without paying.

“I lost my head and did something desperate. I must have been mad. Starvation has driven me that way” said John Male, 63, a labourer, when explaining the breaking of six plate glass windows of the Union Clothing Company in Cuba Street last Friday night. He reiterated his statement previously made to tho police that he was unemployed and had been refused sustenance that week because he had not paid his levy. He broke the windows in order to get a feed. He said that he had had only four meals that week. He was committed for sentence on a charge of committing mischief by wilfully breaking six windows valued at £l6B.
