All Saints’ Branch Of Mothers’ Union

ANNUAL MEETING. Following a short service in the Lady Chapel at All Saints' Church tho annual meeting of All Saints' branch of the Mothers' Union was held in tho girls’ clubroom yesterday aftornoon. There was a particularly large attendance over which Canon G. Y. Woodward presided and opened the mooting with prayer. Canon Woodward congratulated tho members on a year of successful endeavour. He urged them to continue to unite in prayer at tho daily services as a means of bringing help to a troubled world. Annual Report. Tho annual report stated that meetings had been well attended and interest maintained, a spirit of friendliness and comradeship prevailing. Ten general meetings and two committee meetings had been held, also an induction service at which six now members had been admitted. The February meeting had taken the form of a social afternoon when at the kind invitation of Mrs, 11. G. Bagnall, GO members and friends had spent an enjoyable time at her home, To Awe Awe stroet. During the year the branch had entertained members of the Takaro Ladies’ Guild and the League of Mothers. An outstanding event had been the Mothers' Union conference held in Palmerston North, over which Mrs. M. Wallis, of Wellington, had presided. Five other branches had been represented and tho rules and constitution of tho Mothers’ Union were fully discussed. Invitations from tho Ashhurst branch and All Saints’ Men's Society had been received. Mrs. Buck, of Wellington, represented All Saints' branch at tho combined diocesan council meetings. Mrs. Byrne kindly took charge of the cards to be distributed to mothers of children baptised at All Saints’ by which means it was hoped to encourage young mothers to attend the meetings. A member, Mrs. Jackson, had left to reside in Auckland. All wore 3orry to lose Mrs. Wiltshire, but recognised that Palmerston North’s loss was Pongaroa's gain. The vacancy on t.io committee caused by the resignation of Mrs. Weeks was kindly filled by Mrs. Lemberg. Correspondence had been received from two overseas branches, Swindon and Chesterton. Loving sympathy was extended to those who had suffo-rod bereavement and to those who thiough sickness had been unable to attend meetings. Gratoful thanks were extended to the following speakers who had helped to make the meetings very interesting: Canon Woodward. Rev. Hyde, Messrs. J. H. Runnicies and Maurice Cohen, Misses C. Ashton and J. Bradiield. Thanks were also tendered to those who had at various times contributed items, to the hostesses who had attended to the afternoon teas, and to Mesdames Lemberg and Davey for providing milk. The financial statement disclosed a. credit balance which was considered very satisfactory. Tho roport and balance-sheet were adopted on the motion of Mrs. Hewitt. It was agreed to donate Is to the funds of the food depot. Officers Elected. The election of officers for the ensuing yoar resulted:—President, Mrs. Woodward; vice-presidents, Mesdames L. A. Abraham, Dawick, Hewitt, H. G. Bagnall and Metcalf; secretary, Mrs. Eadcliffe (re-elected); treasurer, Mrs. Eekersley (re-elected); committee, Mesdames Wollormau, Brougham, Lemberg, Penny, Taylor, Wheeler and Bridcn Jones.

A very nice afternoon tea was served, the hostesses being Mesdames Brougham, Dawick, Sholidrake, Lemberg, Marsh and Rush. The usual votes of thanks wero extended and a very pleasant afternoon concluded with the grace. Apologies for absenco were received from Mesdames Woodward, Wollcrman, Finch and Schwarz.
