From Our Own Correspondent. Obituary.

Residents of Bulls and Ohakea learned with regret of the death of Mr. Joseph Henry Gray, at Bedding on .February 24, 1933. Mr. Gray, wno was in his dlth year, was very widely known as headmaster of tho Bulls District High School from 1906 to 1921, in which year he relinquished tho position and retired to Bedding.

During this period, Mr. Gray kaa an excellent record of scholastic successes and hundreds of children passed through his hands ia a manner which reflected nothing but credit on him. A just and strict disciplinarian, Mr. Gray exorcised commendabjo control over his school and he always displayed interest in tho children, both in and out of school hours.

An ablo musician, Mr. Gray, who conducted tho choir in tho Prosbyterian church, was very active in producing plays by the school children, and the success of those was eloquent testimony to his capabilities in this respect. He Was a well-read man, and wrote many short poems, a good many of which wore published in tho local Press. Mr. Gray was married twice—his first wife predeceasing him in 1910 and of this family thore are Messrs. L. G. Gray (Marton), H. L. Gray (Awakino), and Mrs. W. G. IVinchcombo (Marton). Mr. Gray’s socond marriage took place in 1912, and of this union, Mrs. Gray and two children —Miss Billie and John Gray survive. Town Board Meets. The monthly meeting of tho Bulls Town Board was held on Thursday evening, there being present, Councillors J. B. Walker (chairman), 0. H. Edwards, B. H. Holland, D. Lundy unu M. C. Gould. Apologies were received from Councillors C. M. Broughton ana ,C. C. Price.

Mr. E. \V. Peacock wroto asking the Board to biro a side drum belonging to the defunct Bulls band, stating that a movement was afoot to form an orchestra at the Parewanui Maori Pah. Tho Board regretted that it could not accede to the request. Bov. S. M. Mead asked the Board to make a reduction in tho hire or we hall for tho production of the Passion Play lantern lecture in March 10, stating that the profits of tho lecture were to be devoted to Hew Zealand charities. —Tho Board agreed that tho objects of the lccturo were quite worthy, and members concurring in this view, it was decided to make a reduction in the hail charge. A transfer of property from. B. Chilcott to W. Meads, junior, was approved, and a similar transfer from B. B. Bushby to B. B. Douglas was also approved subject to arrangements being finalised. Messrs. Batcholar and Mclndoo asked for permission to erect a wash houso for J. Kemp.—Granted. W. Byne wroto asking the Board to make a refund on the purchase of a plot at tho cemetery, stating that his fathor, who had purchased the plot irum the Board somo years ago, had since died, and had been buried elsewhere. — Tho chairman stated that the request was a reasonable one, and tho applicant was not in good circumstances. If tho Board did not tako over the plot again it would not be used. It was eventually agreed to make the refund as requested. Foreman Howard reported that tno main roads had been graded five times by the County Council grader, and that a quantity of screened metal had been laid in Bridge street, and footpaths in High street weeded; several street corners had boon metalled, while grass on the Recreation ground and tho cemetery had been cut. Relief workers had also been engaged in clearing blackberry and planting young trees. General.

The question of withdrawing action against the cyclists charged with riding on tho Bulls footpaths arose, and a suggestion was put forward to wasn the cases out. Members were not in tavour of doing this as it was necessary to put a check on the practice which had recently resulted in a child being knocked over. It was decided to grant tho Oddfellows’ Lodge a quantity of cement to make improvements to the entrance at the hall. The Works’ Committeo appointed ior the ensuing month, Councillors Holland, Lundy and Price. Pinances. Accounts totading £ll3 Os iOd were passed for payment and rcumuo received during tho month aggregated £9B 6s Id, the chief items being rents, £ll 6s; rates, £5 Vs sd; licence fees, £65 9s; library, £3 Is 3d; and Domain, £3 2s.
