Exit Noise
Following the example of Rome, Florence has declared war on unnecessary street noises. Now, from midnight till 6 a.m., motor drivers are prohibited from using any kind of sound signal in the residential areas. A. similar rule has been instituted in Milan. The notice adds that drivers must slow down and observe the utmost care and circumspection when approaching crossings and side streets. English drivers, too, are realising that much use of the horn is unnecessary. They are also discovering the warning to which headlights may be put. At night a number of motorists now temporarily switch on their headlights at junctions instead of sounding their horns. Tho "light” method of warning is by far the safer and pleasanter, and among the best-behaved in this trespcct axe the drivers of longdistance motor conches.
