At a meeting of the Foxton Dorcas Society held on Friday there were present Rev. G. A. Young (in the chair), Alosdames Christie, Barron, Perreau, Mason, Procter, Alairs, Liddell, Bennett, Aloore (hon. secretary), Alisa Sowell and Ensign Armstrong. Apologies for absence wore received from Mrs. Brown and Rev. Air. Liddell. It was reported that only one parcel had been received since Christmas but several appeals had been received. There were various suggestions and discussions as to requirements l’or tlio winter as funds are getting low. It was decided to hold a shop day on Saturday, April 20, the Saturday after Easter. An appeal is made for donations or parcels of clothing and boots and shoes. All parcels may be left at Air. G. F. Smith’s shop in Alain street. Obituary. There passed away at the Palmerston North Hospital on Thursday a wellknown and highly respected ex-Foxton resident in the person of Airs. Jano Hooker, relict of the late Air. FrodcricK Hooker, at the age of 84 years. The late Airs. Hooker resided in Foxton for many years, but Tonioved to Palmerston North shortly after the death of her husband a few years ago, to take up her residence with her daughter, Mrs. IV. Gray. As the result of a recent accident through a fall, she sustained a fracture of the thigh and was conveyed to the hospital, but her age aud the seriousness of the injury left little hope of recovery. Born in Roscommon, Ireland, deceased lived in Australia, where she married, prior to coming to New Zealand, where she and her husband resided in the Wairarapa before taking up their residence in Foxton. The late Airs. Hoolcer was loved by all who knew her for her sympathetic and kindly nature. Who leaves three sons (William and Bernard, Palmerston North, and Fred, Paeroa) and four daughters (Mesdames W. Gray and R. Hynes, Palmerston North, Airs. Curtis, Thames, aud Airs. S.
