From Our Own Correspondent. The annual meeting of the Agricultural Society was held on Friday evening, with but a fair attendance. Mr. Robt, Fergusson presided. The secretary (Mr. W. B. Faulding) submitted the year’s financial balance-sheet, which showed a profit of £l2 5s 3d, the credit balance from tho last show being £3 13s lid. A discussion then arose as to the advisability of continuing to hold tho shows, the Presbyterian church being closed. The issue mainly concerned tho two remaining churches, whose leaders were of the opinion that the shows contributed but little toward the upkeep of the churches, -while the labour involved was considerable. It was generally felt that owing to lack of public interest that other means of raising funds would prove more satisfactory in the present time of stress. The motion was adopted that the shows be held over for one year. A further meeting will then decide future proceedings. It, was decided to leave part of the funds in the post office, while the balance from the last show was divided between the Methodist and Anglican churches. The meeting terminated with a vote of thanks to the chair and to the secretary.
