While the police looked on, Nazis arrested judges and high officials at Chemnitz and insultingly harangued the Mayor of Coblenz. Nazis maltreated guests at a Madgeburg hotel and smashed the furniture They attacked the Peruvian Consul at Bremen.

By midnight the Nazis were masters of Munich. Storm troops occupied the Bavariau Parliament after resistance by the police, who long tried to prevent tho hoisting of the swastika. The excitement wa3 unabated at a late hour and troops paraded tho streets, followed by crowds. A great Nazi ceremony was held in the Odeonsplatz, whore Von Epp declared they had come to ensure tho maintenance of law and order, and asked the people’s support. The scone was illuminated by searchlights and torches. In Berlin Nazis broke into a trade union building and wrecked the offices. Reports everywhere received state that tho Nazis arc torturing Communists, forcing them to swallow castor oil and thrashing them with steel rods after which they are taken to prison and iniirmaries.

Herr Frick (Minister of the Inter ior) at a Nazi meeting declared: “Communist deputies will not bo allowed to attend the Reichstag, but will be interned in concentration camps, where they do more useful work than in Parliament.’’
