OROUA VALLEY SETTLEKS’

PICNIC

The twenty-fourth annual picnic of tho-Oroua Valley' settlors was hold on Wednesday last in the well appointed and picturesque grounds of Mr. N. C. Jensen and again proved a very enjoyablo fixture. Visitors were present from Foildiug, Palmerston Nona uau tho surrounding districts. The weather was ideal, a practically cloudless sky with a light breeze to temper .»nu sun’s rays. Tho fact that tho day was so good made it imperative that tno hay which had been thoroughly wetted by tho rains ou tho preceding days had to bo attended to, thus affecting the attendance considerably. A very energetic committee with Mr. Dennis Jensen as president and Mr. W. A. London as secretary had all tho arrangements and tho events well in hand. A notable improvement ou former years_ was made in getting tho races off earlier in the day thereby giving greater leisure for afternoon tea and tho presentation of prizes. The committee wish to thank all those willing indies who so diligently attonded to tho catering throughout, tho day and to those who so generously donated trophies, etc. ' Mr. ■ L. J. Wild, principal of tho Foildiug -Agricultural High School, after a short interesting. address, . ably executed the presentation of the prizes. In the evening a danco was held in Mr. Jensen -s dining room. Tho spot .waltz was won by Miss D. Waugh and Mr. E. Viles, while Mrs. H. Gatcholl and Mr. H. Smith carried, off the prizes in the Monte Carlo. Tho music for dancing was supplied by Misses 11. Gatcholl and E. Lewis. Just before tho singing of “Auld Lang Sync” Mr. London, in his amiable and customary manner, thanked Mr. Jenson for the use of his house, ■which was carried by acclamation and musical honours. Mr. G. On Saturday tho Apiti A tennis team visited Kimbolton to play the third match in the first round against the local team. Tho score resulted in a win for Kimbolton by 16 sets to 8. The results are as follow, Apiti players being mentioned first: —•

PERSONAL

Mrs. O. Fusscll, who has been an inmate of the Palmerston North Hospital, has returned homo and her friends wish her a speedy xccovcry. Miss M. Baigent, of Palmerston North, who has been holiday-making at Kimbolton, returned to her homo yesterday. Master Jack Grammar, of Ashhurst, spent the week-end hero with friends. Master John Havill, who has been at the Scout camp at Ngaputahi, has returned home.

Miss M. Wells has boen spending a few days at Kimbolton as tho guest of Mrs. R. Richardson.
