Pahiatua

To complete a day of interest and excitement caused by the visit of their Excellencies Lord and Lady Bledisloe to Pahiatua, tho local Swimming Club staged tho first night carnival of the season. The weather was beautifully warm for such an event and tho absence of even a mild breeze was appreciated by competitors and onlookers. A large number of the public were present and everyono seemed to thoroughly enjoy the sport, the challenge relay raco of tho Banks and Post Office causing great oxcitement, and fun. Tho children’s events were well patronised and well contested and several Eketahuna competitors added interest to the senior events.

Mr. J. D. Thomson of the local branch of the Bank of New Zealand, accompanied by Mrs. Thomson is absent on annual leave. Mr. and Mrs. Thomson are taking a motor trip to Auckland and Taupo. Miss Pattel formerly of the Pahiatun High School staff, has been the guest of Mrs. J. D. C. Crowe, Wakeman Street. She has now left for the North, accompanied by Mrs. Crewe, who intends spending a holiday in Auckland. Mr. David Crowe, Wakeman Street, is on holiday at Foxton. Dr. and Mrs. H. Paterson accompanied by their daughter and three sons are spending a holiday at Waikanac. Messrs W. Taylor, W. Dick and B. R. Austin all of Napier were visitors to Paliiatua for the week-end.

Miss Rita Bailey, formerly of Pahiatua. nnd now of Napier, is visiting Paliiatua. Mr. and Mrs. G. L. Stafford who have been spending their honeymoon visiting Mt. Cook and other interesting resorts of the South Island have taken up their residence in Pahiatua. Mrs. J. Harrison, Tyndall Street, is an inmate of the Public hospital where she has had to undergo an operation.

Mr. H. Vile, Seflcole Street, is at present in the Public Hospital, where he lias undergone an operation.
