A ■ return tenuis match between the Eangiotu and Glen Oroua Clubs took place on. the local courts on Saturday afternoon. Tho weather was flue with a slight breeze and an enjoyable time was "spent. Afternoon tea was provided by the Glen Oroua ladios, Mr. H. A. Prebble, president of tho local club, welcoming the visitors. Mr. W. Larkins, on bohalf of tho visitors, stated that it was a ploasuro to play with such a sporting crowd and tho Kangiotu players looked forward with pleasure to tho matches played both at Glen Oroua and Eangiotu. Ko thanked the ladies for thoir kindness in looking after tho visitors so well. The teams were again very evenly matched, Glen Oroua winning by 9 sets (78 games) to 7 sets ((38 games). Following are me individual scores, visitors being mentioned first: —
Men’s singles: Larkins lost to B. Prebble, 2— 6; Donaldson beat N. Prebble, "6—4; Hunia lost to Parlaue, 3 (3; Chapman lost to Ihle, 4—6. Ladies’ singled: Miss Dixon lost to Miss Hobbs, I—6; Miss Chapman lost, to Miss Prebble, o—6; Mrs. Pearce beat Miss B. Wheeler, 6—4; Miss Simmons beat Miss IN". Wheeler, 6 —l. Men’s doubles: Larkins and Donaldson beat E. and N. Prebble, 6—5; Hunia and Chapman lost to Parlanc and Ihlo, 5—6. ■ Ladies’ doubles: Miss Dixon and Mrs. Chapman lost to Misses Hoods and Prebble, 3—6; Mrs. Pearce and 'Miss Simmons beat Misses B. and N. Wheeler, 6 —5. Mixed doubles: Larkins and Miss Dixon beat E. Prebble and Miss Hobbs, 6 —l; Donaldson and Mrs. Chapman to N. Prebble and Miss Pre»D>c, -5—6; Hunia and Mrs. Pearce beat Parlane and Miss B. Wheeler, 6 —4; Chapman and Miss Simmons lost to Ihle and Miss N. Wheeler, 3—6. The Glen Oroua team will travel to Longburn next Saturday to play a match against tho Longburn B team.
Recent ladder matches in the local competition resulted as follow: A. Ogilvie beat F. Lawlor, 7 —2; E. Lawlor beat L. Thompson, 7 —3; F. t,-on-nelley beat F. Wheeler, 7—5. . Miss N. .Benson and Mr. F. Benson, of Wellington, aro spending a holiday with Mr. and Mrs. T. Lawlor. Mrs. E. 0. Hornblow, of Foxton, is at present staying with her mother, Mrs. T. Saunders.
Mrs. J. Wheeler, of Mangawhata, and her son Eonald, who have been on holiday in Wellington, have now returned home.
