Pool and Telegraph Picnic

I-lAPPY DAY AT BALL AN CE BRIDGE The annual picnic of the Palmerston North .Post and Telegraph staff was held during the week-end at Ballance bridge. A, special train left the local station at 9.30 a.m. carrying about -±uo picnickers. 'Tho morning being dull kept a lot of intending patrons from attending but those who journeyed out were welcomed with bright sunshine. A strong committee was set up to get everything in order and on arriving at the ground the remainder, found everything was in readiness. The day was spent in sports, swimming and games, the children being especially catereci for with free ice creams, fruit, soft drinks and other delicacies which touch the heart of the young folk. On tnc way out in the train each child was tnc recipient of a bag of lollies. The programme of sports for the boys and girls was run off before lunch, the results being as follow: — Girls under 5: Ivy Jensen 1, Nocline Aisher 2, Shiela Melville 3. Seven years and under: M. Air. Aliine called on the Chief Postmaster (Air. F. W. Furby) to present the trophies won at the sports and thanked all who had assisted to make the outing such a successful one. The sports were in the capable hands of Alessrs F. Henderson (handicapper), who staged some close finishes, J. Hellerby (starter), AI. Alcßean (announcer) and F. W. Aisher (supervisor).
