Two Broadsiders Crash
WELL-KNOWN AUCKLANDERS SERIOUSLY HURT Per Press Association AUCKLAND, Last Night. Two prominent local broadsiders, E. J. F. Day and D. Mattson, were hurt in a spectacular crash at Western Springs speed-way last evening. Both received concussion and Mattson also had one shoulder injured. They were admitted to the Auckland Hospital, and Day’s condition w-as later fairly serious, although Mattson’s was not serious. Day fell while leading in the second of the series of teams’ races and attempted to reach the grass area in the contro of the track. Two other competitors, W. Herbert and W. Allen, avoided him, but ho ran directly in the path of Mattson, whose machine struck him heavily. Both Mattson and Day were thrown to the ground and rendered unconscious. Day was carried to the ambulance, while Mattson, although conscious, also required assistance. Both riders had been successful at the earlier meetings this season.
