Relief of Distress
HOSPITAL BOARD’S HELP APPRECIATION EXPRESSED Owing to the appreciable addition made to the number of distress cases in Eeilding through the trouble in the freezing industry, extra demands have been made on the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board through Mr. V. E. Smith, the local representative. Mr. .Smith has issued a substantial number of extra ration tickets, and he lias found the chairman and secretary of the Hospital Board are very sympathetic and are giving him a free hand.. Mr. • Smith states that the board has never questioned his decisions in these matters and thinks it right that the public should know this. The chairman aiid secretary are keenly interested in Feildiug and very anxious to help. On Friday the secretary of the board made a special trip to Fcilding to meet'a large group of people who had applied . for relief rations, and Mr. Fhillipps was very helpful. Tho Mayor of Palmerston North had also associated with Mr. Smith in this district and Mr. Smith desired to publicly acknowledge this.
