Women Pay Tribute To Lady Bledisloe
As a part of tho ceremony of welcome to their Excellencies, Lord and Lady Bledisloe, at Pahiatua yesterday, the chairman of the Bush group of Women’s Institutes (Mrs. 11. Paterson) asked her Excellency’s acceptance of a lovely hand-worked cushion. The background was of black silk poplin, the design, a Welsh dragon, being carried out in a variety of colours. The card accompanying the gift had tho following Welsh inscription on it: “Eich presenoldcb yu oiu plith a rydd i ni aurbydedd,— ninnau a rhown i chwi gywir gyfarchiad.” The English interpretation being:
“We are honoured by your presence, and we give to you greetings.” As she made the presentation Mrs. Patefson said: “Wo shall feci highly honoured if your Excellency will accept this cushion, on which ono of our members lias embroidered the Welsh dragon. It is filled with wool grown in the district, each Institute supplying a small part of the total. Another member has written a message in Welsh on tho accompanying card. This message I am unablo to Tcad in the original, but tho English translation, •Wo aro honoured by your presence, and we give to you greetings,’ is meantto convey to your Excellency, tho love and loyalty of tho women of this district.”
Lady Blcidisloo expressed her thanks very simply for the kindly thought.
