Kingsford Smith afcTawranga
Per Press Association TAURANGA, Jan. 26. Squadron-Leader Kingsford Smith stated it is his intention to put in a tender for tho English mail service this year. He said he would first tender to fly mails between Australia and England and vice versa in periods of two weeks with tho ultimate object of cutting down the time to eight or ten days. Sir Kingsford Smith met Mrs H. B. Hewitt, who claims to be the first certificated lady pilot in the world. She got her ticket in 1910. Yesterday “Smithy” took up nineteen full loads of joy riders in the Southern Cross, which will arrive at Auckland to-morrow. Tho engines of the Southern Cross will probably be overhauled at Christchurch prior to preparations being made for the flight back to Australia from the Ninety Mile Beach.
