Garrison Band
To the Editor. Sir,—ln view- of the criticism of the Palmerston North Garrison band’s junior section (C grade champions at the recent Napier contest) may I respectfully suggest to Conductor Pike that he endeavour to arrange a public performance for the benefit of citizens generally? The quickstep display (which has always been popular with Palmerstonians who delighted in the performances of the bands of the past) should prove a great attraction, while the test selection should be equally enjoyable.
The trouble with Palmerston North people is that they have not sufficient “go” in them to take advantage of a distinctive win like this recent one, even when a prominent Napier musician declared that the C band was good enough to enter for the B grade. The Garrison band has never tried to “hoodwink” the home town —but it is certainly modiest and lacking in initiative. Prove to critics that Palmerston North has a good band and an equally promising junior one. I am, etc. NO BANS.
