Credit Where Credit is Doe

To the Editor. Sir, Your correspondent "Credit Whore Credit ia Due,” is evidently one of those who got up with n bad taste in thoir mouths on Sunday morning when they heard of the Garrison band’s success at Napier. So bitter was thio pill that ho found it impossible to swallow. So, after chewing it over for two or threo days he had to spit it out. He accuses the Garrison band of attempting to hoodwink the public of Palmerston North. But his main object is obviously to cast reflections on the band and if possible, cause them to lose public support. If ho knows anything about contesing at all, ho must know that there is a New Zealand Brass Band Association, and before a band can tako part in a contest, that body must bo furnished with a list of the players in each band. In the case of the Garrison band, tho Brass Band Association was furnished with two lists—one for tho A grade band and one for the C grade. The association was satisfied that everything was fair, square, and above board and I don’t see where Mr. Credit has any Toom to squeal. It must bo remembered that sis players, no matter how good they may be, cannot do tho work of 26. They can only play their own individual parts and the young players must do likewise. If three-quarters of a band are junior players, then I think one is quite in order in calling it a junior band. '• Palmerston North Garrison juniors won on their merits. They v'ould have been foolish to have attempted the B grade before thoy had overcome the C grade. Fourteen of the band had never had any contesting experience. They only had three weeks to get ready and I think they especially deserve great credit for the wonderful performance they put up. In conclusion, "Mr. Credit Where Credit is Dus,” I invite you to come out from behind your nom-de-plume and between us we may be able to let the public have the truth. Hoping to meet you at the next contest. I am, etc., J. B. THOMSON. Palnnsrston North, January 26th, 1933.
