LOSSES CUT BY HALF. United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright SYDNEY, Jan. 25. I'ho Premier, Air Stevens, says railway losses have been checked as a result of the Government's transport policy, although full effect could not be expected until next year. The deficits on the railways and tramways, which last year were £4,500,000 and £300,000 respectively, would bo reduced to half those amounts in the current year. Two objectives sought were the divorcement of transport from the type of political control which had produced inefficiency and loss, and securing services helpful to essential industries and comfort to the travelling public.
