Auckland's Lucky Victory Over Wellington
OVERNIGHT BAHT HELPS SPIN BOWLERS Per Press Association AUCKLAND, Last Night. Tho Plunket Shield match Auckland versus Wellington ended in a somewhat lucky victory for tho home team by 43 runs. Heavy showers fell during Monday night and the sun came out late this morning with the result that although the weather was firuo tho game was continued on a wet wicket. Auckland carried their second innings total to 30G, but on a wicket which gave the spin bowlers every assistance. Wellington lost five of their best wickets for 89, but the later batsmen made a gallant recovery, O’Brien and Lamason adding 77 in a fine sixth wicket partnership, but the last wicket fell shortly after five o'clock. Dempster batted brilliantly on the tricky wicket until ho returned a catch to Vivian. Great credit was duo to O’Brien for the manner in which ho used his reach to smother the break and keep the spin bowlers at bay during the morning. Vivian and Garrard bowled particularly well before lunch, but subsequently when the wicket was easier tho Auckland attack was not difficult. AUCKLAND First Innings 36G Second Innings A. J.
