Australian Farmers' Visit
GREAT IMPROVEMENT IN DOMINION’S DEVELOPMENT
“There lias been very much improvement in tho agricultural development of tl)o Dominion and wo were struck by tho largo number of small farm holdings. Tho visit has created a groat impression, while a number 01 the party have purchased stock—sheep, Jerseys and draught stock—to take home to Australia,” stated Mr. E. G. Ham, M.8.E., tour secretary of the Victorian farmers’ party which is now in Palmerston North on the course of its tour of tho Dominion. The visitors, 76 in all, arrived in Palmerston North yesterday and leave to-day for Napier after viewing tho district. “In some respects the agricultural methods employed hero are ahead of our own, this being particularly noticeable in regard to pastures, and ensilage, the latter being much more practical iii the conservation of fodder. “A number of our party inspected the Massey Agricultural College yesterday and were greatly impressed witn tho college and the work it is accomplishing. Tho research work must prove of great benefit to the farming community, for the Dominion generally and even wider afield. “Many of us come from the northern parts of Australia, tho districts there being very dry although there has been splendid development in regard to irrigation. This is reflected in the marked increase of our butter exports. “Our visit, it is felt, is one that is affording a splendid opportunity for tho interchange of thoughts and this sort of thing is invaluable in our sphere,” concluded Mr. Ham.
