Chevalier Coming To The Regent, Friday
The main attraction at the Regent theatre on Friday is to bo the tuneful musical comedy, ‘ ‘ Lovo Me To-night. ’ ’ That Jeanette MacDonald and' Maurice Chevalier; the delightful pair of “The Love Parade,” and “One Hour With You,” are included 1 in the cast, is sufficient assurance of the excellence of the entertainment, but tho production is enhanced by. the clever direction of Rouben Mamoulian.
Groat pictorial resource is also a feature of. the film. From the artistic aspect, “Love Me To-night” is outstanding.- The opening-scenes, which ddpict the dawning. of a new day in Paris, are a triumph of, artistic direction, while tho musical score, which is a gradual crescendo, increases the realism.
Talented players act the subordinate parts.,- There,is Charlie Buggies, as impecunious as usual. Charles Butterworth and Myrna Loy, who has a typical role. The play is set mainly in tho chateau of a French duke and the interest never flags from the time that Maurice ClievalieT, a Parisian tailor, visits the ancestral residence posing as a baron, until he leaves under a stigma.
Such delightful songs as “Minii,” “Love Me To-night,” “The Poor Apache” and “Isn’t It Romantic” are rendered by the principals.
