AUCKLAND’S FINE RECOVERY IN PLUNKET SHIELD MATCH

Best Batsmen Fail;. Others Strike Form

NINE WICKETS FOR 286 Ter Press Association AUCKLAND, Last Night. The third day’s play in the Plunkct Shield crickot match Auckland v. Wellington saw the home team make a line recovery from an awkward position. The weather was fine aim tho wicket easy.

The last four Wellington batsmen gave their side a first innings lead of 31. Auckland’s best batsmen failed to got a start in tho second innings. Newman struck his best bowling form after lunch and five wickets were down for 82.

Partnerships between Whitolaw and Bush and Garrard and Pearson saved the homo side. All four batted brilliantly. Auckland have now one wicket in hand with 255 ahead and there are prospects of a keen finish to-morrow. The Wellington bowling tired badly toward the close of to-day’s play. AUCKLAND.
