Young Girl’s Ordeal
BROKEN LEG IN THE BUSH.
A girl named Grace Lei'cht, 16 years of age, employed by Mr George Stanleynear Yculba, in the Roma district of Queensland, had a harrowing experience lately. While returning on a horse from a visit to her sister, the horse took fright and bolted through the bush. The girl was knocked off by an overhanging branch, and when she regained consciousness she discovered that her leg had been broken in two places, and the bone exposed. Though suffering from loss of blood, Miss Leicht managed, with the aid of two sticks, to crawl to a gate in the fence, where she found the horse, and tried to mount it by crawling up a large ants nest. She fainted in the effort, and was forced to lie there throughout the night, suffering agonies from pain and thirst. Once a dingo prowled near, but retreated without attacking her. Early nest morning the girl heard Mr Stanley’s voice calling to the cattle. She cried" out for help, and in a few minutes Mr Stanley found her He quickly secured her a drink of water from a creek. Within a short time the girl was in a hospital, -where an operation was performed. The doctor hoped to save the leg. Mr Stanley went over the girl’s tracks later, and stated that the trail where she had crawled was bloodstained for 200 yards. The girl showed great grit in crawling to the gate.
