MRS. CURRY THE GUEST OF HONOUR

Curry, a valued member of tho executive of the Palmerston North Girl Guido Association, and pioneer of tho movement in this district, was farewelled at a tea-party yesterday afternoon by members of the executive. Tho gathering took place at the Rosco tea-rooms whore the longtables wero charmingly arranged with dark‘red gladioli and dainty refreshments and icos wore much enjoyed. In tho absence of the president (Mrs. D. Belt), Airs. Cyril Ming, District Commissioner, presided, and voiced tho regret felt by all concerned with guiuing in tho Alanawatu that Mrs. Curry was removing from the uistrict. Tho executive desired to placo on record their very deep appreciation of all that Airs. Curry had done to further the movement, sho said. In asking Airs. Curry’s acceptance of a dainty handbag as a farewell offering Aliss C. Warburton, former District Commissioner, said she was very happy to make tho presentation, but regretted the occasion. Paying tribute to Airs. Curry’s services as the prirno mover in introducing guiding to the district, Aliss Warburton said sho had shown great courago and foresight. As the first, secretary she had uo«e uu the spado work on stony ground and with a somewhat apathetic public and her success was all the more creditable. Mrs. Curry had also ably tilled tho positions of district secretary and treasurer and what was very important, she had been tho mother of Joan, one of tho best guides in the district. Joan had been a real guide, which was the best tribute the speaker felt ebuid bo paid. Tho gift, Aliss Warburton explained, was a small token of the affectionate esteem in which Mrs. Curry was held by tho members of tho executive, and they wished her all happiness in the future. Expressing her thanks feelingly, Airs. Curry said the work had been a pleasure, and a privilege.Others, present were Mesdamcs Grant Sim, P. I'. O’Connor, A. F. Wimsett, K C. Barnett, T. J. Rodgers, F. Bennett, Misses AlcLagen, Bett and Warren, also Mrs. T. W. Bennett., formor chairman, and librarian, and Mrs. Smith, sister of Mrs. Curry, also one of tne original committco members. RONGOTEA GUIDB.'-j IN CAMP Tho Rongotea Guido Company as holding a camp on Air. Signall’s property between Halcombo and Alarton. The camp is ideally situated, being close to a small lagoon, which with raupo and water lilies presents a beautiful sight and provides much interest for the girls, A totara bush surrounds tho site, the trees forming a fine shelter for tho stores, etc. Tho camp is in charge of Aliss Lorna Davies, captain of Rongotea Company, who has tho assistance of her two sisters, and thero aro •14 guides under cauvas, many of whom have camped previously. Tho camp is particularly well laid out and the guiders and guides have disclosed wonderful ingenuity in the gadgets they have made. An official visit was mado to the camp by Aliss Warburton, camp adviser, and Airs. Cyril King, District Commissioner, has also been out. The campers have enjoyed excellent weather and are in good health. In addition to their routine work they have enjoyed swimming and various excursions and they will be very sorry when the camp breaks up on January 26.
