I Will Give Thanks To-day
Someone has ashed "Can you ho glad today? The year has been too full Of heaviness For thoughts of true thanksgiving."
No, my friend, I cannot see it so. The year has held the same Delightful things— The songs of birds, The blue of summer shies; The hush of twilight, Tulips in the Spring, Forget-mo nots along the garden walk; Frost silvering late roses In the fall, The flaming torches of The beech-wood tree's; The russet glory of Towering oaks; The golden carpet of the. maple leaves — A thousand daily miracles Like these
It has held more Than these familiar things; Back of the hours Of heaviness and doubt Has sounded softly The firm steady beat Of a great peoplo’s hope. Secure and sweet. Because the world’s need Has been keen and sore, Our love has found Our brother’s heart Once more!
For all these things My heart is warm With joy; And when tonight, The western hills are flushed With the deep rose That trails the setting sun, I will know my hymn of praise I's just begunl Eleanor G-. E. Young
