Sharp Rise in Fat Lamb at Addington
PIGS IN POOR DEMAND Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. A sharp rise in fat lamb values was the principal feature at the Addington market to-day. Exporters were precluded from taking all but a few pens. The fat lamb entry was 2100, the quality being mixed but there was a rise of Is to Is 6d a. head, the average price being about 41d per pound. Tho top price was 17s Id for five lambs. Pat sheep showed a much larger entry and prices wero on a par with last week’s rates. Values were: Extra prime heavy wethers to Iss 7d, prime heavy 13s to 14s, prime medium weight Its to 12s 9d, ordinary and light 9s to 10s (id, extra prime heavy ewes to 13s, prime heavy 10s Od to 12s Od, medium weight prime Ss 6d to 10s 3d, light and ordinary 5s to Bs.
The entry of fat cattle was 350 and the average quality was very good. Best beef made up to 21s per lOOlbs. and in odd cases up to 235. Good prime 17s to 19s, heavy 15s to 17s, ordinary quality to 12s, rough down to us. Values were: Extra prime heavy steers to £lO 12s Od, prime heavy £0 .10s to £9, prime medium weight £5 ,10s to £7, ordinary quality £3 15s to £5 ss, light £2 to £3 10s, extra prime heifers £7 12s Gd, prime £4 ss, to £O, medium £3 to £4, light to £2 1.55, extra prime cows to £8 7s° Od, prime £3 10s to £5, medium £2 10s to £3 ss, light and aged £1 5s to £2 ss.
There was a big entry of fat pigs for which tho demand was weak and prices low. Values were: Choppers 27s 0d to 53s Od, baconers 29s 6d to 84s Od, heavy 37s Od to 44s Od, average price per lb. 2|d to 31 d; porkers 19s Gd to 22s Od, heavy 24s Od to 27s Od; average price per lb. 3*d to 31d.
